Stigma: 

Homelessness isn’t an issue in my area. Homelessness is primarily in bigger cities.

Fact: 

There is consistent National and State demographic distribution of homeless persons.

Stigma: 

The homeless are violent and dangerous drug addicts and sex offenders.

Fact: 

The homeless are often veterans, single mothers, children, and broken families.

Stigma: 

They are homeless because they are lazy and uneducated.

Fact: 

Many of our homeless are under-employed and uninsured.

Stigma: 

The homeless have chronic legal and drug problems.

Fact: 

They often have undiagnosed or untreated psychological and medical conditions.

Stigma: 

They are dependent on others.

Fact: 

Most homeless people strive to regain their independence.

Stigma: 

There is no hope for the homeless.

Fact: 

They are homeless, not hopeless. They are usually temporarily unsettled with no safe and supporting place to go.
